The Green Team was established by Borough Council to promote efforts ensure Watchung is a sustainable community. Sustainable policies and practices seek the long-term viability of the borough by saving tax dollars, conserving energy, reducing the community’s carbon footprint and natural resource consumption, and providing for the health and safety of residents. Members of the team review and recommend eco-friendly, cost-efficient projects designed to improve municipal operations. The team includes residents, a variety of borough officials, including representatives of the Environmental Commission and Finance Department. The team works directly with other borough organizations and seeks public-private partnerships.

The Charge Up NJ EV Incentive Program is now in its fourth year and the Residential EV Charger Program is in its second year. The Charge Up NJ EV Incentive Program is a key component of the Energy Master Plan, the State’s roadmap to reaching 100% clean energy by 2050. The program aims to reduce Green House Gas emissions through encouraging equitable access to the benefits of the EV transition. Specifically, the State will provide incentives of up to $4,000 for vehicles with MSRP under $45,000 and incentives of up to $2,000 for vehicles with an MSRP between $45,000 and $55,000. Additionally, the Residential EV Charger Incentive Program offers a $250 rebate for home chargers.
