The Historical Committee shall gather current items of future interest and catalog and store such items for the future. The Committee shall provide a yearly summary of Borough activities to provide an ongoing and accurate history for the future. The Committee will conduct programs as necessary to educate citizens on the colorful history of this area and to encourage resident participation. The Committee will seek to maintain high interest in historic homes and sites in the Borough to preserve our heritage

Watchung’s Historic Texier House Museum is located at 10 Mountain Boulevard.

The Watchung Historical Committee has opened the Texier House Museum to preserve and display artifacts related to Watchung’s history.  The museum features collections of artifacts and photos from Watchung history, including Moldenke's Castle, ice cutting on Watchung and Best Lakes, sports champions, Pedeflous and O'Connor's restaurants, government and social organizations and it is a work-in-progress and donations of artifacts, old photos and cash donations are always welcome to enhance the displays. We are currently working on new displays about the schools, the flood of 1973 and Watchung: Then and Now, a display of historic homes.  The Texier House Museum is staffed by volunteers from the Watchung Historical Committee and it is a work-in-progress and donations of artifacts, old photos and cash donations are always welcome to enhance the displays. Donations can be made online directly to the Watchung Community Fund.

In 2016, the Texier Museum received the History Award from the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission.

Watchung Blankets

Images of America, Watchung, is again available for purchase for $20.00. This book is a great collection of wonderful photographs and captions which provide a unique perspective of our town.

Bill Titus's paintings, which hang in both the Police Station and Borough Hall, have been reproduced to make a beautiful color set of note cards. Each set of note cards contains eight different paintings of scenes of old Watchung. Each set costs $15.00

Both of these items can be purchased at the Texier House. Make checks payable to the Watchung Community Foundation or bring cash.
