Texier House Museum, Watchung N.J.
Journey through the Past-October 8-9, 2022
The Texier House had its grand opening on October 5, 2013. Hippolyte Texier and his family built the home in the late 1800's and lived there until the early 1900's. The structure has, since then, served as Borough offices, the Police Department, and is now Watchung's home for history. Popular exhibits include Historical homes and businesses, former commercial activities, Borough athletes and artists, Displays on World War I & II, the Moldenke Castle, shipwreck survivor (Tiby) Wotherspoon, the Legend of Watchung, and much more!
Special Event: Sunday, October 9t0h 12 pm – 4:00 pm
Author and Historian Robert A. Mayers will join us to sign his book “Historic Tales of Watchung" and will answer your questions about our town’s history. Visit www.revolutionarydetective.com for a preview.
Watchung began as a cluster of Indian campgrounds lining the Stony Brook. Today it encompasses an area of six square miles. It’s history begins with the town’s first residents – the Native Americans, and spans four centuries of Indian legends, colonial days, the American Revolution, the town’s industries, old homes and it’s share of misfortunes.
