Quarter 1 Due February 1st covers January, February, and March
Quarter 2 Due May 1st covers April, May, and June
Quarter 3 Due August 1st covers July, August, and September
Quarter 4 Due November 1st due covers October, November, and December
There is a 10 day grace period. Tax payments received after the grace period accrue interest back to the first. The interest rate for delinquent taxes by state statute is as follows: The first $1500 of delinquency is at 8% (APR) any balance over $1500 is at 18%. The 18% interest remains until the delinquency is brought current.
Sewer Tax Due July 1st Sewer Tax has 30 day grace period. After 30 days interest follows the schedule above.
Special Assessments: Sewer Connections and Curbing Assessments when in default can be advertised and sold in a Tax Sale to enforce payment thereof, following the same procedure as delinquent taxes. Contact the tax office to request a copy of your schedule.
SEPTEMBER SPECIAL ASSESSMENT TAXES DUE
This is a reminder for residents who have sewer and or curbing assessment payments due
in September for the following streets:
Old Somerset/Century La./Valley Rd./Price Dr./Ridge Rd./
Cardinal/Woodledge/Johnston Dr./Skyline/Oakwood Rd./ and Birchwood.
Past due payments are subject to additional interest, calculated at the same rates as delinquent taxes, and payments that remain unpaid from the prior year are subject to sale at the annual tax sale. Please check your schedule for the amount due or contact the tax office.
LOST TAX BILL and NEW RESIDENTS
Per N.J.S.A. 54:4-64, failure to receive a tax bill does not affect the due date or the date that interest begins to accrue. It is the responsibility of each tax payer to obtain the amount due on their property. If you misplace your bill or did not receive the bill, please call the office and we can send a duplicate copy. New residents who do not receive a tax bill from the seller of a newly purchased home at closing must call the tax office to request a copy.
MORTGAGE COMPANY CHANGES
When your mortgage is paid off or you change mortgage companies the tax office should notified in writing. You will receive a bill marked “THIS IS NOT A BILL FOR ADVICE ONLY” at the time bills are sent out. This is exactly like the bill sent to the mortgage company and can be used to pay your taxes once you know the MORTGAGE COMPANY is no longer paying.
SENIOR CITIZENS MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR TAX DEDUCTIONS
1. You must be 65 years of age in the prior year
2. Your income cannot be over $10,000 excluding Social Security Income
3. You must own and reside in the home by October 1st of the prior year.
DISABLED DEDUCTION ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
1. 100% permanently and totally disabled.
2. Unable to gainfully be employed as of December 31 of the prior year.
3. A physician's or Social Security Disability or New Jersey Commission for the Blind Certificate.
4. Income cannot be over $10,000 excluding Social Security.
