The Green Team was established by Borough Council to promote efforts to save tax dollars, conserve energy and reduce the community’s carbon footprint and natural resource consumption. Members of the team review and recommend eco-friendly, cost-efficient projects designed to improve municipal operations. The team includes residents, a variety of borough officials, including representatives of the Environmental Commission and Finance Department.
Agendas and Minutes
Watchung’s Green Team continues to work hard toward sustainability efforts. The members of the team were busy last year with the relocation of the Watchung Farmer 's Market. In addition to Watchung's Fall Farmer's Market, the Green Team sponsored a From Our Farms workshop at the Watchung Library in December of 2015. The From Our Farms is a project, offered through Rutgers Co-operative Extension that teaches chil
dren about the importance of good nutrition and the value of local agriculture.
For the remainder of the 2015, the Green Team has been working hard on planning the Fall Farmer’s Market. We are looking forward to be hosting the Green Fair in Watchung in April of 2016 and will begin the planning process the end of this year. More information to follow.
The Team is currently focusing on planning the 2016 Green Fair. The Watchung Green Team is proud of the collaborative effort with the Warren Green Team and Somerset County Planning Board in hosting this year's joint Green Fair scheduled for April 30, 2016, 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Bayberry Elementary School. Residents from both towns will have an opportunity to recycle materials that you cannot recycle in your regular recycling (i.e. Elec tronics, Styrofoam, paper, crayons, books, textiles/shoes etc). The Green Fair will also have live demonstrations and exhibits from sustainable vendors.
In addition to the Green Fair, the Team is planning the 2016 Watchung Farmer's Market which is scheduled to run every Sunday, beginning July 31st through October 2nd at the Best Lake parking lot. The market will include local food vendors, local produce and prepared food vendors, some craft vendors.
The Green Team is working hard toward maintaining Bronze Certification and is striving to obtain Silver certification. The Team currently is in NEED of active volunteers who can help us achieve this task, assist with upcoming events and help improve our community.
