The Borough Clerk serves as Secretary to the Borough of Watchung Council and is the custodian of the municipal seal, all minutes, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds and archival records of the Borough.  Dog & Cat Licenses, Liquor, Hawking & Peddling, Towing, Taxi-Limo and Raffle/Bingo licenses / permits are issued by the Clerk.  This office provides general information to the public, and is impartial and apolitical in dealing with Public Officials and citizens.

Some of the many Statutory duties of the Clerk include:

  • Preparation of meeting Resolutions, Ordinances, Agendas, and meeting Minutes.
  • Advise the Council on applicable Statutes, including the Open Public Records Act
  • Responsible for OPRA requests (Open Public Records Requests)
  • Accepts legal documents on behalf of the Borough
  • Maintains custody of official documents, responsible for local archives, including records storage, retention, and destruction, in accordance to Statute
  • Insure compliance with Financial Disclosure Statements
  • Maintain receipt of Landlord/Tenant Registrations
  • Oversee the Primary, General and School Board Elections; including accepting, certifying and maintaining receipt of Nominating Petitions; securing Polling Locations

The Clerk’s Office is open daily from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The Clerk is also a Notary and is available to notarize documents for residents at no/charge.

                    Primary Election – June 6, 2017

                    General Election – November 7, 2017

         

Polls are open from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm for all elections.

          Districts 1 and 4 vote at the Fireman’s Exempt Hall

          District 3 votes at Bayberry School

          Districts 2 and 5 vote at Wilson Memorial Church

 

2017 Election Time Line:

          April 3rd, 2017      Nomination Petition Filing Deadline

          April 12th, 2017    Last day to change party affiliation for the Primary Election

          May 16th, 2017     Last day to register to vote in Primary Election

          May 30th, 2017     Last day to apply for a Mail-in-Ballot by Mail

          June 5th , 2017     Last day to apply for a Mail-in Ballot in Person
